International Day of Charity 2022

Today, September 05, is the International Day of Charity. Helping Hands Project was initiated by the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka to support vulnerable families at this crisis time. Our project is still in its early days but we are really proud to celebrate the International Day of Charity.

The International Day of Charity was formed with the goal of sensitizing and mobilizing individuals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and stakeholders all over the world to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities.

The date of September 5 was chosen to honor the departure of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for efforts performed in the struggle to eradicate poverty and hardship, which also pose a threat to peace.” For more than 45 years, she served the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying while overseeing the Missionaries of Charity’s expansion, first in India and subsequently in other nations, including hospices and houses for the poorest and homeless. Mother Teresa’s work has been recognized and praised all around the world, and she has earned numerous honors and accolades, including the Nobel Peace Prize. Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997, at the age of 87.

Helping Hands aims to alleviate the serious effects of economical crisis in Sri Lanka. We have identified families who need our help. We extend our assistance in four domains – education of children, healthy meals, healthcare and empowerment.

Following are few posters that we shared in social media as a part of our commemoration of the International Day of Charity.

We are very proud to be among many charity organizations serving the impoverished people of Sri Lanka. With the help of our donors we spread the message of humanity in Sri Lanka.

Everybody have the power to help. While our donors directly support us to uplift the life standards of needy, our volunteers and our team members help in many other ways for the functioning of our organization.

We expect that compassionate Sri Lankan living all around the world will join hand with us for this great cause. Please share this good news with your friends and families.
